Dear Members,
Welcome to the winter edition of Trauma Talk. As the cooler months settle in, our trauma community across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand continues to demonstrate incredible dedication, managing the ongoing, complex demands placed on our health networks and critical care systems.
Reflecting on the busy months behind us, this season brings exciting updates regarding our international footprint, upcoming leadership opportunities, and key governance milestones for the Society.
I am incredibly proud of the strong ANZTS representation at the 8th World Trauma Congress recently held in Stockholm, Sweden. Attended by leading trauma and emergency surgery minds from across the globe, the congress operated under the timely motto, “The TEAM – Together Each Achieves More.” Our members took to the international stage, sharing groundbreaking research, participating in vital panel discussions, and representing the high standard of care our region is known for. The connections forged and insights gained in Stockholm will undoubtedly help shape our practices as we look ahead to our own annual conference.
Speaking of which, please continue to save the dates for this year’s ANZTS Annual Conference—”Trauma in a Changing World’”—taking place in beautiful Sydney from the 15th–17th October 2026. The conference Organising Committee and Scientific Committee have been working hard to deliver another stellar conference that will celebrate the research, quality improvement, education and clinical excellence that Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand are known for.
Following our update in the Autumn edition regarding the ratification of the Society’s new constitution, we are pleased to announce that the new by-laws and Board Charter have been finalised. Developed in collaboration with Governology, these documents have undergone rigorous review and refinement to ensure they provide a robust, modern framework that supports our constitution and strategic goals. The final versions will be made available to all members on the ANZTS website shortly.
To maintain our momentum and ensure excellent governance, we are opening doors for members to step up into leadership roles and celebrate those who excel in our field.
- Call for Board Nominations: We are formally calling for nominations for new Board members. If you are passionate about guiding the strategic direction of the Society and advocating for excellence in trauma care, I highly encourage you to submit your nomination.
- ANZTS Awards Nominations: This is also a final reminder that nominations for the prestigious ANZTS awards remain open. Our Society is rich with exceptional individuals making extraordinary contributions to trauma care and research. Please take a moment to nominate your peers so their achievements can be celebrated on a bi-national stage.
Thank you for all your support of the ANZTS.
Kind regards,
Belinda Gabbe
ANZTS President
